MAKE TIME:

A personal pledge to make time for creativity

No pressure, no judgement. Just a permission slip for yourself, when you need it.

The MAKE TIME creative pledge is a free, voluntary pledge to give yourself the gift of creative time. Whether it’s one hour once a week, more or less, or whenever feels right for you.

You don’t need a reason. You don’t need a plan. And you don’t need to be good at it. You just need to make time.

The MAKE TIME creative pledge is a simple, personal commitment to set aside a regular slot each week, just for you, just for making. It might be 30 minutes on a Tuesday morning with a cup of tea. It might be a Sunday afternoon with whatever’s already in the craft drawer. It might be something you’ve wanted to try for years, or something you used to love and let slip away.

It’s yours. You decide what, when, and how. No pressure. No judgement. No performance.

Just a quiet promise to yourself that creativity gets a place in your week.

Making things is good for you. Science says so.

Let’s make time for it.

Did you know that creativity reduces stress, improves mood, builds focus and gives us a genuine sense of achievement?

Just imagine how we might feel with just an hour per week (or more, if you wish) dedicated time to making.

No pressure for it to be perfect. Nobody checking to see if we’ve done it. Just pure creative freedom, for the fun of it.

And the best bit? Being ‘good’ at it isn’t important, it’s there to be enjoyed, not judged!

 FAQs

  • Yes, completely. There’s nothing to buy, no subscription that kicks in later, and no hidden catch. The pledge is a gift to yourself — the only thing it costs is a few minutes of time to complete it. Your future self will thank you for it!

  • Absolutely not — and if you’re reading this thinking “I’m not really a creative person”, this pledge is especially for you. The Make Time Creative Pledge isn’t about being good at something. It’s about giving yourself permission to try, explore, or rediscover. Because creativity is good for us, and is there to be enjoyed, not judged!

  • Anything you decide counts. There’s no official list. People use their make time for things like:

    • Knitting, sewing, embroidery or crochet

    • Sketching, painting or doodling

    • Baking, cooking something new or decorating

    • Writing, journalling or poetry

    • Playing music, singing or learning an instrument

    • Gardening, floral arranging or nature crafts

    • Pottery, sculpting or model-making

    • Absolutely anything else that feels like making to you

If it feels like making, it counts.

  • You choose. Some people pledge 20 minutes. Some pledge two hours. The right amount is whatever you can honestly commit to without it feeling like pressure. Start smaller than you think — a kept pledge is worth more than an ambitious one you quietly abandon.

  • Then you missed a week. That’s all. There’s no one keeping score, no streak to protect, and no shame attached. Life happens. The creative pledge will be there the following week, exactly as you left it.

  • Yes, and I want to be upfront about that. When you take the pledge, you’ll receive a welcome email with your pledge written back to you, and you’ll occasionally hear from me about The Createhood community, events, and other free things like One Big Make. I’m not a big emailer and I don’t do hard sells. You can unsubscribe any time.

  • Only if you want it to. When you take the pledge, you’ll choose whether you’re happy for it to be shared on The Createhood’s social media (your name won’t be shared, just the pledge), or whether you’d prefer to keep it private. Either is completely fine.

  • Not at all. And The Createhood isn’t a club to join with an ongoing commitment. Your pledge stands entirely on its own. You’re warmly welcome in the Facebook group, at local Meet & Make sessions, or at One Big Make, but none of that is required. Think of those as open doors, not obligations.

  • The right kind of person is anyone who wants to make a bit more room for creativity in their life. That’s it.

The Make Time Creative Pledge was designed to be as wide-open and as pressure-free as possible.

If something in you said ‘yes’ when you read about it, trust that feeling and enjoy the creative freedom you’ve just given yourself.

  • The Make Time Creative Pledge is created by Lucy Kirkman, founder of The Createhood — a creative community based in Shipston-on-Stour, South Warwickshire.

Lucy has worked as a graphic designer for over 30 years and built The Createhood on a single belief: that creativity changes people.

The Createhood brings people together through in-person sessions, online craft events, and free initiatives like The Make Time Creative Pledge making creativity open to everyone.
